HANDS Apartments On Schedule For July Completion

The former Housing and Neighborhood Development Service headquarters at 502 E. 12th Street in Erie are being renovated into the Flagship City Apartments, which are designed for persons with disabilities. With an expected mid-July 2013 completion date, the 6,900 square-foot, $1.1 million project includes funding from the City of Erie through their HOME Investment Partnership Program and the Erie County Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Officials from HANDS hope to achieve a silver rating under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes standards and ratings system. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a certification process that ensures energy efficiency standards in the building and operation of the apartments.
