Pifer and several of his friends, including, Corey Kendig, of Harborcreek Township, Bren Randolph, of Millcreek Township, and Dustin Charcalla, of North East, helped Pifer achieve his "winter wonderland," by helping him pick up and unload "snow" and spread it onto his lawn. The "snow" was collected from the Ice Center of Erie, JMC Ice Arena, Mercyhurst Ice Arena, and from Seven Springs, Pa. "I love the winter. It's a passion of mine," said Pifer. "This is showing my true love for winter," he added.

Mercyhurst University Students Look For Sweetener In Presque Isle Waters

  • Earlier this year, Amy Parente, a Mercyhurst University assistant professor of biochemistry, found an artificial sweetener called sucralose in Lake Erie. Since then she has received a grant to do further research into the presence of sucralose in the waters around Erie. On Oct. 25, she and some of her students collected water samples in the ponds near the canoe and boat rental area at Presque Isle State Park.

New Fishways Open on Fourmile Creek in Lawrence Park
